All this week’s Netflix Originals (Available from 18th December 2020)

One of the great things about Netflix is their Netflix Original content – be it films or series made by Netflix themselves or exclusive content available only on Netflix after it airs on regular TV. Every week we will give you a round-up of the new Netflix Originals becoming available in the next week. We will aim to post every week on Thursday evening with what will be available over the coming week. Perfect if you’re looking to check out what new Originals are available to watch over your weekend or if you’re planning a week-long Netflix binge-watch! Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

Adapted from Pulitzer prize-winner playwright August Wilson’s play of the same name, ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ sees actor Viola Davis and producer Denzel Washington come together for the second week in a row on Netflix as we saw the pair bring the documentary ‘Giving Voicelast week. The Year is 1927 and tensions rise between famous blues singer Ma Rainey (Viola Davis) also known as the ‘Mother of Blues’, her ambitious horn player (Chadwick Boseman), and the white management determined to control them. Directed by George C. Wolfe and starring Viola Davis, Chadwick Boseman, Colman Domingo, Michael Potts, Glynn Turman, Dusan Brown and Taylour Paige.

Paava Kadhaigal

Four directors, four stories. Paava Kadhaigal is an anthology that takes us on a journey to explore the difficult issues that arise in relationships of all kinds. It is disturbing in parts and incredibly dark in others, touching on themes untouched before in this brave collection of stories around the delicate subjects; honour, love, sin and pride. Starring; Aadithya Baaskar, Anjali, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Menon, Hari, Kalidas Jayaram, Kalki Koechlin, Padam Kumar, Prakash Raj, Sai Pallavi, Shanthnu Bhagyaraj and Simran. Directed by; Gautham Menon, Vetri Maaran, Sudha Kongara and Vignesh Shivan.

London Hughes: To Catch a D*ck

London Hughes is a British comedian from London who is making big waves rather than ripples on the comedy scene. Highly controversial but extremely relevant, Hughes likes to tell it how it is including discussing the difference between male and female comedians and being a black woman in London but mainly about trying to find love in the city – all in her brand new stand up comedy special; ‘To Catch a Dick’.

Lovestruck In The City

Whilst away on holiday, an architect who considers himself a hopeless romantic, crosses paths with a young woman with a zest for life. Thinking he’s finally found The One, things aren’t as they seem as she and his camera, disappear. The romantic comedy series follows six young adults as they navigate their way through dating to find love in the midst of their hectic lives. Starring; Ji Chang-Wook and Kim Ji-won.

The Midnight Sky

George Clooney directs this film adaptation of Lily Brooks-Dalton’s acclaimed novel ‘Good Morning, Midnight’. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a scientist in the Arctic; Augustine (George Clooney) is on a mission to contact Sully (Felicity Jones) and her crew, currently in space, from returning home to Earth. If they return they will find nothing but destruction in the aftermath of a mysterious global catastrophe. Also starring; David Oyelowo, Kyle Chandler, Demián Bichir and Tiffany Boone.
