Based on the fan fiction novels surrounding the real-life boy band ‘One Direction’ members, particularly ‘Harry Styles’, ‘After’ is the story of Tessa Young (Josephine Langford) as she begins the adventures of leaving her faithful boyfriend and home for college. When she meets a mysterious boy who captures her attention in ways nobody else ever has, Tessa must re-evaluate her life as she knew it. But where will it end and who really is ‘Hardin Scott’? The film stars Hero Fiennes-Tiffin as ‘Hardin Scott’, viewers may remember him from Harry Potter when he played ‘Tom Riddle’ in ‘The Half-Blood Prince’.

Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein
If there’s one thing Netflix can do, it’s to make us laugh. This ‘mockumentary’ film features ‘Stranger Things’ actor David Harbour as he searches through ‘archived footage’ to discover who is acting father (also played by himself) really was and the secrets he held.

Netflix has received some quite scathing feedback regarding the premise, acting and narrative of this film, not least from ‘The Guardian’ newspaper who published a particularly harsh online review this week claiming that “Secret Obsession looks awful” and that Netflix would soon be tweeting with their ‘It’s so bad, it’s good’ ethos seen before after negative public response. It does appear to follow a path of other ‘made for TV’ or ‘True Crime’ stories with a cheesy feel to it but let’s give it try and make up our own minds before we dismiss it so easily. We do agree on their point that the trailer pretty much tells us the whole story (if you can’t guess it already) so you might want to avoid it or switch it off quickly. For those who would rather avoid the trailer but want some idea of the storyline…the film begins with an amnesia patient who wakes up in a hospital with no recollection of herself or her life. For those that have already figured it out, this isn’t ‘Overboard’, think more ‘You’ and you’d be on the right track with this jumpy thriller released on Thursday.
