All this week’s Netflix Originals (Available from Friday 12th July 2019)

One of the great things about Netflix is their Netflix Original content – be it films or series made by Netflix themselves or exclusive content available only on Netflix after it airs on regular TV. Every week we will give you a round-up of the new Netflix Originals becoming available in the next week. We will aim to post every week on Thursday evening with what will be available over the coming week. Perfect if you’re looking to check out what new Originals are available to watch over your weekend or if you’re planning a week-long Netflix binge watch! This area is exclusively for Netflix Originals, for general Netflix additions and removals or to view the current full catalogue check out your regional New On Netflix website.

Love Netflix Originals? Well here’s our list of ‘Top Picks’ for this week. Check out the trailers below and let us know what you’re looking forward to this week -full list of this week’s additions and regional availability at the end of the post. Netflix aren’t always that clear about geographical availability so please bear with us as we try to be as precise as possible about where Netflix Originals will be available. If in doubt titles will be listed simply as [Original].

Based on the fan fiction novels surrounding the real-life boy band ‘One Direction’ members, particularly ‘Harry Styles’, ‘After’ is the story of Tessa Young (Josephine Langford) as she begins the adventures of leaving her faithful boyfriend and home for college. When she meets a mysterious boy who captures her attention in ways nobody else ever has, Tessa must re-evaluate her life as she knew it. But where will it end and who really is ‘Hardin Scott’? The film stars Hero Fiennes-Tiffin as ‘Hardin Scott’, viewers may remember him from Harry Potter when he played ‘Tom Riddle’ in ‘The Half-Blood Prince’.

Extreme Engagement

What happens when a newly engaged couple decides to travel the world to explore how marriage and relationships work in a variety of cultures? Will they still want to go ahead and say, I do? Perhaps, the adventure will make them run from each other screaming. Well, this week we are about to find out in reality/documentary show ‘Extreme Engagement’.

Point Blank

Netflix presents ‘Point Blank’, a global original starring Frank Grillo and Anthony Mackie. When a man finds his pregnant wife kidnapped and receives directions on what he must do to ensure her safe return, he sets to work doing it. Using his job as an ER hospital nurse, he must free a patient under police guard and reluctantly partner with him against corrupt police and the criminal world.

Available globally from Friday 12th July 2019

Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein

If there’s one thing Netflix can do, it’s to make us laugh. This ‘mockumentary’ film features ‘Stranger Things’ actor David Harbour as he searches through ‘archived footage’ to discover who is acting father (also played by himself) really was and the secrets he held.

Available globally Friday 12th July 2019

Secret Obsession

Netflix has received some quite scathing feedback regarding the premise, acting and narrative of this film, not least from ‘The Guardian’ newspaper who published a particularly harsh online review this week claiming that “Secret Obsession looks awful” and that Netflix would soon be tweeting with their ‘It’s so bad, it’s good’ ethos seen before after negative public response. It does appear to follow a path of other ‘made for TV’ or ‘True Crime’ stories with a cheesy feel to it but let’s give it try and make up our own minds before we dismiss it so easily. We do agree on their point that the trailer pretty much tells us the whole story (if you can’t guess it already) so you might want to avoid it or switch it off quickly. For those who would rather avoid the trailer but want some idea of the storyline…the film begins with an amnesia patient who wakes up in a hospital with no recollection of herself or her life. For those that have already figured it out, this isn’t ‘Overboard’,  think more ‘You’ and you’d be on the right track with this jumpy thriller released on Thursday.
