Remastered: The Lion’s Share

The music documentary series’ eighth instalment (or ‘track’ as Netflix has affectionately renamed its ‘Remastered’ episodes) ‘The Lion’s Share’ examines the case of the song ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ and uncovers the origins of its melody from South Africa. Showing how major western music production exploited the melody. The documentary directed by Sam Cullman follows the journey of South African journalist Rian Malan as he attempts to take on some of the biggest names in entertainment such as ‘Disney’ to bring home ‘The Lion’s Share’ of the profits back to where they belong, the direct descendants of Solomon Linda, a black South African man who wrote the original melody.

See You Yesterday

Originally a fifteen-minute short film in 2017 ‘See You Yesterday’, now a full-length film features Claudette Walker (Eden Duncan-Smith), known as CJ to her friends, and her best friend Sebastian (Dante Crichlow) spending their spare time trying to master the science behind time travel. When CJ’s brother is accidentally shot and killed by a police officer, CJ knows there is only one thing they can do. With a limited amount of ‘jumps’ back to before the shooting, teenagers CJ and Sebastian desperately try to save C.J’s brother Calvin (Astro) in this ‘Back to the future’ style movie. A word of warning though, as a Spike Lee movie this may not be as family-friendly as it seems.
