Marvel’s The Punisher (Season Two)

The month of January is no doubt a long and arduous one, of that I am sure we all agree. Fortunately we have Netflix binge-watching to do to cheer us up. The first notable addition to the Netflix Original content this week is the second season of Marvel’s ‘The Punisher’. Always and forever reeling from the murder of his wife, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) harnesses his rage to fuel his new position, fighting for justice.

Grace and Frankie (Season Five)

Yes, that’s right, your two fave, sweary older ladies, are back for the fifth season of the popular hit series. This season the women are just as unstoppable as they adopt an absolutely ‘no f**ks given’ approach to life, much to the dismay of their families. Expect sex references, swearing, touching moments, laughter and drugs. What else would you expect from ‘Grace and Frankie’.

Sam (Noomi Rapace) is hired as the close protection agent of a rich, entitled young woman Zoe (Sophie Nelisse) who is set to inherit the vast fortune of her father. When the pair escapes a violent kidnapping attempt, Sam must teach Zoe how to fight for herself as they attempt to unravel the conspiracy behind the kidnapping. Whilst the narrative is entirely fictional, director Vicky Jewson’s research led her to real-life close protection bodyguard ‘Jaqueline Davis’ (the first British female bodyguard) who was heavily involved in the production to ensure authenticity.

Available in most regions from Friday 18th January 2019

FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened

The 2017 ‘luxury’ festival that was planned to take place on a remote island in the Bahamas was marketed as the best thing to ever happen. People bought tickets in droves and the event sold out fast. This documentary tells the tale of how it all went wrong. promoters Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule sold the event with marketing that included some of the most influential social media personalities and models that later revealed they were paid substantially for their involvement. How did they get away with fraud? They didn’t. The lawsuits came in thick and fast and McFarland was sentenced for fraud in October 2018.

For those of us that are not astronomers or maybe just didn’t pay attention at school, a quick Google search reveals that ‘IO’ is actually one of Jupiter’s four moons, who knew! In this new sci-fi movie from director Jonathon Helpert, ‘Sam’ (Margaret Qualley) is a young scientist that has remained on Earth, after the rest of civilisation has left, in a bid to save the planet and find a way to make it habitable again. After broadcasting a message she meets a young man who responds to it on his way to meet the last shuttle launch to leave planet Earth heading for IO where the human race has made its new home. Convincing Sam to join him, the race is on to get to the departure point before it is too late. Will they make it? Will Sam decide she wants to stay? Will they fall in love and create little post-apocalyptic babies to form a new population. Ok, that’s just our minds going crazy but if you are looking for a tense movie to watch this weekend, this looks to be a good option. Let us know your thoughts.

Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes

This fascinating documentary looks behind the scenes of the story of the man who violently killed dozens of women during the 1970’s and most probably earlier, yet sounds eerily convincing of his innocence in this series of tape recordings of over 100 hours made with him during his trial and incarceration before his death by electric chair in 1989. The recordings by two journalists seek to provide the documentary with an explanation as to why so many women appeared to support his claims of innocence based solely on how he looked. C’mon ladies. I mean yeah he was a looker but is he really the kinda guy you’d want to have your babies!
