Between Two Ferns

In 2008 an internet show was born. ‘Between Two Ferns’ is a chat show hosted by comedian Zach Galifianakis that has a prime regular spot feature with the online comedy portal ‘Funny or Die’ – created in 2007 by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. The show ran for over ten years online as a hit with many. Interviewing some big names in Holywood, Galifianakis intentionally screws up interviews with ridiculous mistakes and gaffs. With bad graphics, spelling mistakes and insults, the show has been produced as a film for Netflix. This isn’t the first time the show has produced a special; ‘Between Two Ferns: A Fairytale in New York’ aired on Comedy Central in 2012.  This new special for Netflix begins when chat host Galifiankis accidentally and momentraily kills guest Matthew McConaughey. In a bid to restore his chat show host status he must embark on a road trip cross country to interview some of the biggest names in Holywood. Following its previously successful format and as the title suggests, the interviews are conducted between two potted Fern plants and often end in cringeworthy-disaster. From the ‘Funny or Die’ team that brought Netflix mockumentary ‘American Vandal’, ‘Between Two Ferns’ is Netflix hilarious mock-chat show arriving this week.

Disenchantment (Season One – Part Two)

Fans of the popular, adult-themed animation series ‘Disenchantment’ will no doubt be thrilled to see the return of the show to Netflix this week. ‘Matt Groening’s Princess Bean and the gang are back in the medieval fantasy world ‘Dreamland’ with another ten episodes (the second part of the first season). The show has proved popular and has already been scheduled to return for season two in 2020-2021.

Criminal

Crime drama fans are in for a treat this week as Netflix bravely enters into new territory yet again. A twelve-episode anthology set across four countries and filmed in four native languages, each country’s three-episode mini-series comprises of a number of suspects being detained in a police interview suite complete with one-way glass and bare walls. The originality doesn’t just end with the miniseries being released simultaneously in different countries. No, the real unique selling point is that each episode is filmed wholly within the interview suite and follows the police procedure of interviewing and charging the suspect. Now, we are wondering how Netflix ‘Criminal’ is going to hold our attention but think cat and mouse, edge of your seat, over-the-desk style police interviewing such as the likes seen in ‘Line of Duty’ and we start to believe it possible. Only time will tell so we all best finish binge-watching last week’s ‘Unbelievable’ in order to begin ‘Criminal: Insert one of four countries here’ as it lands on Friday 20th September!

Inside Bill’s Brain: Decoding Bill Gates

Award-winning documentary director ‘Davis Guggenheim’ brings a new three-part documentary to Netflix. ‘Inside Bill’s Brain: Decoding Bill Gates’ is a candid look at the life of Gates from his family and personal life to building the Microsoft corporation. Since his ‘retirement’ from CEO of the company Bill Gates has been dedicated to solving some of the world’s biggest problems, the journey is documented here.

Jeff Dunham: Beside Himself

The ventriloquist comedian is back with his second Netflix Special, this week. The success of his first special ‘Relative Disaster’ in 2017 has meant Dunham and his host of popular and unpopular puppets, get to grace our screens again this year. Dunham has a new addition to his cast ‘Larry’ a chainsmoking, aide to the U.S president. That should prove to be a crowd-pleaser!
