All this week’s Netflix Originals (Available from Friday 21st December 2018)

One of the great things about Netflix is their Netflix Original content – be it films or series made by Netflix themselves or exclusive content available only on Netflix after it airs on regular TV. Every week we will give you a round-up of the new Netflix Originals becoming available in the next week. We will aim to post every week on Thursday evening with what will be available over the coming week. Perfect if you’re looking to check out what new Originals are available to watch over your weekend or if you’re planning a week-long Netflix binge watch! This area is exclusively for Netflix Originals, for general Netflix additions and removals or to view the current full catalogue check out your regional New On Netflix website.

It’s Christmas week but apparently, Netflix is so over Christmas, as this week additions to the Netflix Original catalogue appear to be made up primarily of scary and, documentary content. Maybe they are easing us away from the Christmas season gently, maybe they realise that we’ve overdosed on Christmas Prince’s and Magic Calendars and need to get back to reality.
Check out the summary at the end of the post for the full list of additions but here’s our ‘Top Picks’ for this week…

Bird Box

Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich star in this psychological thriller/horror whereby the monster that is haunting the human race takes on the form of each person’s worst fear, driving them to suicide! Malorie (Bullock) striving to save her children, sets out on a journey like no other. Navigating rapids in a small boat with two small children is difficult enough but to do it blindfolded is incomprehensible. She must rely on her other senses to avoid seeing what will cause her own death and that of her children.

Available Friday 21st December 2018

In Mexico City, this fantasy horror sees a group of individuals that are set to balance the scales when the angels leave town and the demons have taken control.  The unlikely three include the priest Father Ramiro Ventura, the Diablero (Demon Hunter) Elvis Infante and a modern day female superhero Nancy. The three fight evil in all its forms in a bid to protect the people and restore their faith in the good.

Available Friday 21st December 2018

When the body of a young woman is found murdered, a group of ex-boarding school students are linked to the victim. The group had shared a common fascination with scent and how the human body experiences smell. Could it be that this new body was killed for harvesting glands and how is the group involved? If you could get your hands on a perfume that would entice anyone to like you, would you murder to get it?! A modern adaptation of the story written by Patrick Süskind.

Available Friday 21st December 2018

Watership Down

Those of us old enough to recall the original ‘Watership Down’ (1978) will no doubt remember it did not pull any punches in its graphic depiction of a tale of wild bunnies who must abandon all they know as their home is facing destruction at the hands of man. Many viewers claim they were traumatised as children watching it and still to this day many refuse to watch it or show it to their children. That’s when the BBC decide to remake it for Christmas! No doubt this latest interpretation of the novel by Richard Adams will be toned down for modern day audiences, however, do not be fooled by the ‘Peter Rabit’ style graphics, the story is still tough. A small group leave the warren in search of a new home, facing all manner of trials in their quest. The mini-series will be aired on the BBC in the UK and will follow shortly globally on Netflix (excluding the UK).

Available Sunday 23rd December 2018

Alexa and Katie (Season Two)

The much-loved BFFs Alexa and Katie are back. Following a highly successful first season that left kids, all binge-watched out and begging for season two in about 24 hours, season two follows the girls one dilemma at a time as they continue to navigate high school and make decisions about their future. Will they be best friends together forever?

Available Wednesday 26th December 2018

Joe (Penn Badgley) sees Beck (Elizabeth Lail) and it’s love at first sight. He literally can’t take his eyes off her. Romantic huh? Hmmmm, as it becomes obvious to everyone but Beck that Joe’s behaviour is abnormal he adopts every tactic he can to eradicate anyone who stands in the way of their relationship, literally. The series gives rise to a conversation about how safe we are and how vulnerable we make ourselves with our online status in this modern world. Chillingly plausible narrative based on the novel by Caroline Kepnes.

Available Wednesday 26th December 2018
