All this week’s Netflix Originals (Available from Friday 26th October 2018)

One of the great things about Netflix is their Netflix Original content – be it films or series made by Netflix themselves or exclusive content available only on Netflix after it airs on regular TV. Every week we will give you a round-up of the new Netflix Originals becoming available in the next week. We will aim to post every week on Thursday evening with what will be available over the coming week. Perfect if you’re looking to check out what new Originals are available to watch over your weekend or if you’re planning a week-long Netflix binge watch! This area is exclusively for Netflix Originals, for general Netflix additions and removals or to view the current full catalogue check out your regional New On Netflix website.

Check out the summary at the end of the post for the full list of additions and here’s our ‘Top Picks’ for this week…

Great News (Season Two)

Mom’s the word in this American sitcom where aspiring journalist Katie (Briga Heelan) finds her mother is the new office intern!  Tina Fey steps from the production team as the executive producer for season one, through the lens for season two, to play the new boss of the team at MMN’ ‘Diana St Tropez’. John Michael Higgins returns in his role as hilarious news anchor Chuck Pierce alongside a cast of strong female leads including Nicole Richie and Andrea Martin.

Available Thursday 25th October 2018

Been So Long

Officially selected at the BFI London film festival ‘Been So Long’ is a British film set in Camden, London. Simone (Michaela Coel) is a struggling lone parent trying to deal with all life throws at her whilst being the best mum she can to her daughter. When she meets Raymond (Arinze Kene) there is an instant attraction but as with most relationships, both parties bring baggage. Raymond’s baggage in the form of an ugly bracelet courtesy of her Majesty’s prison service is an unavoidable topic of conversation. The twist to this romantic movie is that it is a musical, adapted for the screen from the original stage production. Don’t be put off though musical haters, when Netflix purchased the rights they entered into a “multi-million dollar deal”, believed to be their largest, single acquisition of a U.K. film in its history (as of Sept 2017).

Available Friday 26th October 2018

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Sabrina is back. That’s right this is not a brand new character but a comic book sensation dating back to the 60’s! Sabrina first featured in the 1967 comic book series Archie’s Mad House and remained a popular character throughout the 1970’s. Set in the village of Greendale (not a million miles from ‘Riverdale’ and yes they are connected) Sabrina traditionally lived with her two aunts Zelda and Hilda and their pet cat Salem (a witch cursed to live as a talking domestic black cat). Those who remember the movie and series adaptations of Sabrina The Teenage Witch in the 1990’s will no doubt remember the characters of the light-hearted sitcom. ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ is set to be a little darker, dabbling in the realms of horror and the occult, aimed at a slightly older audience.

Available Friday 26th October 2018

In 1992 Sandi Tan and two of her friends, Sophie and Jasmine, set out to produce an independent movie on the streets of Singapore. Inspired by their mentor Georges Cardena, an American self-titled ‘director’ of the movie, the production began and Tan played the lead role; a 16-year old murderer. When the filming finished Georges vanished, taking all of the footage with him, now the girls want answers and they have won a directing award in world cinema documentary for ‘Shirkers’ at the Sundance film festival in the process.

Available Friday 26th October 2018

The Degenerates

The first of two comedic entries to the Netflix Original catalogue this week, ‘The Degenerates’ is a brand new stand up series featuring some of the most rising stand up comics on the scene including Big jay Oakerson, Yameika Saunders and Brad Williams to name but a few. Prepare to be offended. In the funniest way of course.

Available Friday 26th October 2018

Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj

The second of our comedy helpings this week is Hasan Minhaj and his new show. With episodes added each Sunday night Minhaj tackles his cultural and political society with “depth and sincerity” and lashings of laughter! He is pretty convinced the secret service have his alternative news show on their radar so it must be worth a watch by the general public, right? It’s a matter of security 😉
