First up is one for the kids…

The Adventures of Puss in Boots

Season five will be added to the existing four seasons of dreamworks animated series “The adventures of Puss in Boots”. Traditionally the animated series which is a spin off from dreamworks “Shrek” franchise (2001 onwards) and the 2011 movie “Puss in Boots” which are both also currently on Netflix, gets a season update every six months in December and July. It’s unclear yet as to whether a season six is planned for December.

Season five will be available from Friday 28th July 2017.

Daughters Of Destiny

Whilst a number of Netflix original documentary series have been nominated for Emmy awards recently (see here)  “Daughters of Destiny” is sure to be just as well received. The four part series documents the lives of five young Indian girls from extremely impoverished backgrounds as they study at Shanti Bhavan school, Tamil Nadu, India. Shanti Bhavan is a children’s project established in 1996 by Dr Abraham George, principal then and now. His son Anjit holds the post of operational director. The educational project strives to provide children from the poorest situations with an education in order to improve not only their lives and prospects but the lives of their families and communities. The project aims to provide each child with 17 years of education right up to higher education level and the graduates often obtain high earning careers in significant corporations world wide. The docu-series follows the girls (aged between 7 and 23)  over a time-frame of 7 years and is musically accompanied with an original score written by A R Rahman who wrote the score for Slumdog Millionaire in 2008. It is to be assumed that with the length of time filming and the background these girls are from, each story will be an emotional one. You may need the tissues for this story of an inspirational team of people making a real difference in the world and the pupils who receive that helping hand.

Maz Jobrani: Immigrant

Netflix are churning out the stand up comedy specials in their Original releases this year and here is another. Maz Jobrani is a stand up comedian and actor of Iranian-American descent and his material is very apt in the current climate including laughs at politics, immigration, The White House administration and protests. Born in Iran in the city of Tehran and raised and educated in California, he certainly seems qualified to tackle issues of the misconception of middle eastern individuals in America and their heritage with his comedy and has been known to in more serious interviews, articles and TED talks. Filmed in Washington DC, the trailer for his latest stand up show “Immigrant” certainly shows he has potential to carry a full show. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
