The Other Side of The Wind

In 1970 Orsen Welles returned to Hollywood to make what he claimed to be his final movie about a director returning to Hollywood to make his final movie. The film was left unfinished in 1976 and it was assumed it would never reach production phase, lost to the archives. 40 years later and 30 years after Welles’ death the footage has been unearthed from a Paris vault and the film is complete and hitting our Netflix screens this week! ‘The Other Side of The Wind’ is a fictional (Welles insisted it was not autobiographical) story of director Jake Hannaford (John Huston) who struggles with his personal life, as well his director role. Also stars Peter Bogdanovich. Filmed in the mockumentary style which was innovative for its era, the film gives an insight into the industry at that time from one of the best directors ever to work in film.

They’ll Love me When I’m Dead

With the release of the film above; ‘The Other Side of The Wind’, ‘They’ll love me When I’m Dead’ is a documentary behind the scenes of Welles’ final works. With archive interview footage of Welles and others key cast and production members, the documentary takes a look at how Welles final movie ran out of time & money in his bid to outdo himself and his most famous work; ‘Citizen Kane.’ Welles was renowned for creating films that were award-winning and respected within the film industry yet box-office, commercial disasters. We’ll let you decide if ‘The Other Side of The Wind’ and it’s behind the scenes documentary; ‘They’ll Love me When I’m Dead’ would have faced the same fate.
