Unicorn Store

OK, so, Brie Larson plays Kit, a colourful student who fails to convince her art school of her artistic talent. As a result, she takes on a temporary position and begins to accept a life of mundane office work. Just as she is about to give up on her dream of being an artist, Samuel L Jackson appears (I know, we didn’t see that one coming either!) and offers to give Kit what she’s always wanted. Yes, that’s right he offers to give her…her a very own unicorn! Where from? I hear you ask (because that would be your first question in this scenario). Well, from the ‘Unicorn Store’ of course. All jokes aside, the film is a story of a girl not giving up on her childhood dreams and staying true to who she is despite the responsibilities of adulthood and we’re all up for that, right? ‘Unicorn Store’ directed also by Larson has received mixed reviews for its whimsical theme that some have claimed doesn’t maintain balance. Booooo. Maybe they just never dreamed of having a unicorn.

Liss Pereira: Reteniendo Liquidos

Stand Up comedian Liss Pereira brings her debut Netflix original ‘Reteniendo Liquidos’. Filmed whilst pregnant during her tour in 2018, Pereira delivers her one-woman show in a sharp and witty way detailing the unsaid roles men and women play in relation to each other and other relationship-issues we tend to brush under the carpet.

The Silence

Based on the 2015 horror novel of the same name by Tim Lebbon, ‘The Silence’ is the terrifying tale of a family existing in a world destroyed by creatures that rely on their extraordinarily sensitive hearing to attack human beings. The teenage daughter of the family is profoundly deaf and it becomes apparent that her heightened senses are coveted by others, in a world of silence. Fans of Tim Lebbon’s book have raised concerns online about ‘A Quiet Place’ a film released in 2018 that is considered similar in narrative to the ‘The Silence’, however, whilst Lebbon has acknowledged their similarities he claims the films are different and is sure fans will enjoy ‘The Silence’ in its own right. Other criticism has come from the deaf world and is mainly aimed at director John R Leonetti for not casting a deaf actor and for his claim that hearing actor Kiernan Shipka, who plays deaf teenager Ally Andrews, had “an almost innate sense of what it’s like to be a deaf person”.

Available regionally from Wednesday 10th April 2019

Black Summer (Season One)

From an apocalyptic style movie to an apocalyptic style series – ‘Black Summer’ arrives this week and looks set to deliver everything zombie-loving viewers have been missing since the early days of ‘The Walking Dead’. In a similar way to the sequel style ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ was released in relation to its predecessor, ‘Black Summer’ is the sequel story to ‘Z-Nation’ with the same production team. The series is not expected to feature characters from ‘Z-nation’.
