All this week’s Netflix Originals (Available from Friday 9th February 2018)

One of the great things about Netflix are their Netflix Originals – be it films or series made by Netflix themselves or exclusive content available only on Netflix after it airs on regular TV. Every week we will give you a round-up of new Netflix Originals becoming available in the next week. We will aim to post every week on Thursday evening with what will be available over the coming week. Perfect if you’re looking to check out what new Originals are available to watch over your weekend or if you’re planning a week-long Netflix binge watch! This area is exclusively for Netflix Originals, for general Netflix additions and removals or to view the current full catalogue check out your regional New On Netflix website.

As Netflix become even more cryptic about geographical availability please bear with us as we try to be as precise as possible about the regions Netflix Originals are available.

The Cloverfield Paradox

Producer JJ Abrams film based on the original, speculative script by Oren Uziel titled ‘God Particle.’ Abrams only decided to add the film to the Cloverfield franchise by adding extra scenes to connect the narrative, during production. Netflix surprised its subscribers (after numerous delays to release) with an unexpected trailer for the film during the Superbowl on 4th February and released the film immediately after the sporting event straight to Netflix. Maybe we can be forgiven for not including in last weeks post uploaded on the 2nd February then 😉
The film itself features a group of astronauts on board a space craft in the year 2028 which despite sounding very futuristic, is scarily only ten years away. Said astronauts are tasked with the mission of ‘saving the Earth’ from its energy crisis by testing the ‘Particle Accelerator’ which would provide a limitless energy supply to Earth, thus solving the problem. As with all things JJ Abrams, things take a sinister turn as those who were skeptical may well have been right.

Available last week 😉 (Wednesday 4th February 2018)

David Letterman: My Next Guest Needs No Introduction – George Clooney

You may recall we told you of the new interview based chat show coming to Netflix in monthly installments. Well this month’s David Letterman interview is with George Clooney in this intimate and funny conversation with the actor and heart throb.

Available Friday 9th February 2018

The Trader (Sovdagari)

In a world filled with consumerism and love of money, this award-winning documentary follows a man and his van as he travels around the Republic of Georgia. Gela trades just about anything from secondhand clothes to cleaning equipment from the back of his van but he accepts a different kind of currency. Potatoes!

Available Friday 9th February 2018

When We First Met

It is difficult not to feel skeptical about yet another time-travelling/’Groundhog Day’-esq, second chance type, movie but if the trailer is anything to go by this latest twist on a seriously overdone narrative does look intriguingly funny. Why not give it a try and come back and let us know whether Ari Sandel’s version of time travelling romantic comedy is up there with the greats or just another re-run, get it?  😉

Available Friday 9th February 2018

Seeing Allred

A great contender for the 2018 Sundance festival awards, ‘Seeing Allred’ is a documentary following civil rights lawyer, Gloria Allred. Fighting for human rights spanning 4 decades Allred is loved and hated by many for her determination to fight for equality. There is no denying that there is a shift in society at present, particularly surrounding the empowerment of women to stand against injustice and abuse such as with the #MeToo campaign and this documentary includes the high profile work of Gloria Allred for women’s rights, in this climate as well as her own personal battles.

“Fighting injustice is a commitment I made many years ago” – Gloria Allred

Available Friday 9th February 2018

The Ritual

British horror film ‘The Ritual’ is a terrifying tale of a group of men on a walking holiday in the Scandinavian forest in a bid to help them with the grief of losing their friend. With events taking terrifying turns at every moment the group begin to turn on each other psychologically. I know we are British and may be a little bias but wow does this look good! It’s a shame it isn’t available in the U.K or Latin America 🙁

Available Friday 9th February 2018 to the rest of the world.

Love Per Square Foot

It wouldn’t be valentines day without a bit of romance injected into Netflix Original content. ‘Love Per Square Foot’ is the story of two friends of the opposite sex who decide to buy a house together despite not being married which is a pre-requisite for the joint loan scheme. With a marriage now on the cards the tale twists and turns into a love triangle for Karina and Sanjay (and Sam.) The first of six planned productions of original Indian content for Netflix India, this rom-com drama looks filled with fun and romance, perfect for Valentine’s day.

Available Wednesday 14th February 2018 (Happy Valentines Day)

Greenhouse Academy (Season Two)

Fans of ‘Greenhouse Academy’ season one which aired on Netflix in September 2017, will remember that brother and sister Hayley and Alex arrived at a prestigious boarding school after the untimely death of their astronaut mother on her space mission. In rival ‘houses’ of the school the siblings navigate new friendships whilst uncovering government secrets. With mild language, romance and some adult themes the series is definitely more pre-teen than kids series. Catch up with the highlights from season one here. #Spoilers
