The upcoming movie “Annihilation” from Paramount will be coming to Netflix around the world just 17 days after it’s American theatrical release, which will be on 23rd February 2018. Alex Garland’s (‘Ex-Machina’) film is a sci-fi thriller based on the novel of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer.
Starring Natalie Portman, Oscar Isaac, Tessa Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Gina Rodriguez “Annihilation” sees a biologist (Portman) volunteering for a secret mission into alien territory — a cordoned-off forest where a shape-shifting being awaits.

Read the book first….
Still not sure if this adapts the first book or the entire trilogy – a Netflix debut bypassing non-US cinemas will surely jeopardise the chance of a sequel if one were needed.
First book I think.
So I presume this release will likely kill chances of sequels, unless Netflix decides to fund them?
Apparently this sort of film does well in the US but not elsewhere. The studio will likely make more money with a guaranteed fee from Netflix than taking a risk with normal theatrical release. Studio will make the money so no reason why it being on Netflix would mean no sequel.
