Christmas Eve Release Announced for Korean Sci-Fi Thriller Series “The Silent Sea”

Netflix has announced the release date of an upcoming Korean thriller series “The Silent Sea”. The 8-episode series will arrive on December 24th and is set in the year 2075 when depletion of natural resources has devastated Earth. “The Silent Sea” will tell the story of an elite team sent on a special mission to an abandoned research base on the moon to secure a mysterious sample.

The series stars Bae Doona as astrobiologist Song Jian – part of the team sent to the moon – and will ask “What happened at an abandoned Korean research base?” While looking for clues to save Earth, team members become mired in mysterious predicaments and unforeseen events that occur in outer space. Their fates hanging by a thread promised to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Other cast includes Gong Yoo and Lee Joon.

“The Silent Sea” is based on director Choi Hang-yong’s short film by the same name, which received much acclaim at the 13th Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival in 2014. Expect a trailer in the coming weeks.
