Around 10 years ago there were three popular Danish series making headlines on British TV: “The Bridge”, “The Killing” and “Borgen” – some of which have been available on Netflix around the world at some point. Netflix has now announced that they are going to bring back the story of “Borgen” alongside Danish TV Network DR in 2022.
Creator of the show Adam Price is involved in the new series and lead actresses Sidse Babett Knudsen (who plays Birgitte Nyborg) and Birgitte Hjort Sørensen (who plays Katrine Fønsmark) will both be reprising their roles. The original 3 seasons of the show will be available, for the first time ever, on Netflix around the globe on June 22nd September 1st.
In the new Borgen we will again follow Birgitte Nyborg (Sidse Babett Knudsen), her staff and the media tasked with covering her, this time in her role as Foreign Minister. The show will also follow Katrine Fønsmark’s (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen) journey. After being Birgitte’s head of press for a while, in the new season she is back in journalism where she has landed a job as news director for a large, nationwide television station.
The new series will air on DR in 2022 before launching globally on Netflix.
