Award-winning filmmaker Kirsten Johnson doesn’t want her father, Dick Johnson, to die. To be fair most people don’t want their parents to die. But Johnson has a trick up her sleeve: to ease the pain of the inevitable she decided to stage, and film, various ‘deaths’ for her father and the results can be seen in a new documentary coming to Netflix.
“Dick Johnson Is Dead”, which arrives globally on October 2nd, is described as witty and poignant and uses inventive and fantastical ways for Johnson’s 86-year-old psychiatrist father to die while hoping that cinema might help her bend time, laugh at pain and keep her father alive forever.
