Dolby Atmos Has Arrived on Netflix

The release of “Okja” today has brought with it a new feature for Netflix – the addition of Dolby Atmos audio. Much like how 4K and HDR technology improve the visual aspect of watching a movie, Dolby Atmos improves the audio. According to the Netflix Help Centre you need a “4 Screens + Ultra HD” subscription as well as specific hardware.

At present only the XBox One and XBox One S are able to use the Dolby Atmos audio but support is coming soon for the 2017 range of LG OLED TV’s. Support for further devices will be added over time.

“BLAME!” (28th July), “Death Note” (25th August), “Bright” and “Wheelman” will also be released with Dolby Atmos sound.

Do you make use of 4K streams? Are you likely to benefit from the new upgraded audio? Let us know in the comments below.
