If you’re one of the many people this week in the USA who are self-isolating, working from home or have children whose schools are shut due to Coronavirus Covid-19 and are wondering what to watch on Netflix – well, wonder no longer! Here at New On Netflix we’ve put together a list of what we (with the help of our social media users) think are the best things that have been added to Netflix USA this week.
For film fans this week we have The Letter Reader a young boy from Johannesburg arrives in KwaZulu-Natal and begins to read letters for villagers before falling in love with one of the recipients. In the Nollywood film Nimbe a bullied teenager gravitates toward the acceptance he finds in a street gang but soon ends up involved in a world of drug abuse and organised crime. The Notebook sees a poor yet passionate young man fall in love with a rich young woman, giving her a sense of freedom, before they are separated because of their social differences. In Hickok legendary lawman and gunslinger, Wild Bill Hickok, is tasked with taming the wildest cow-town in the west. While delivering his own brand of frontier justice, the infamous gunfighter’s reputation as the fastest draw in the west is put to the test. Spotlight is the the true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core. Also added this week was the martial arts film Ip Man 4: The Finale and the Netflix original sequel The Kissing Booth 2.
For TV series this week we have the Polish TV crime drama Signs in which a young woman’s murder shows similarities to a decade-old cold case,and, a new police commander must break the silence permeating an Owl Mountain town. Sing On! Spain is a fast-paced, high-energy karaoke competition,where singers from all walks of life battle it out for up to 30,000 euros! Also added this week were How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) season 2, and Norsemen season 3.
If you’re a fan of documentaries then we have The Remix: Hip Hop X Fashion which profiles Black visionaries in fashion who rewrote narratives on the runway and turned hip-hop style into a global phenomenon. Fear City: New York vs The Mafia investigates the five Mafia families who ruled New York with a bloody fist in the 1970s and ’80s, until a group of federal agents tried the unthinkable: taking them down. Love on the Spectrum is a four-part documentary series following young adults on the autism spectrum as they explore the unpredictable world of love, dating and relationships. In Street Food: Latin America Latin American chefs tell their stories and bring a taste of tradition and innovation to their delicious offerings. The Last Dance gives a definitive account of Michael Jordan’s career and the 1990s Chicago Bulls, packed with unaired footage from the 1997-98 season. Finally for documentaries we have Sinatra: All or Nothing at All which is is an up-close and personal examination of the life, music and career of the legendary entertainer. Told in his own words from hours of archived interviews, along with commentary from those closest to him, the documentary weaves the music and images from Sinatra’s life together with rarely seen footage of Sinatra’s famous 1971 “Retirement Concert” in Los Angeles.
For kids this week we have The Larva Island Movie which is a movie sequel to the hit series,and sees Chuck return home and talk to a reporter about life on the island with zany larva pals Red and Yellow. In Dragons: Rescue Riders: Secrets of the Songwing the Rescue Riders have to find a way to break the spell when a musical dragon with a beautiful voice hypnotises the dragons and people of Huttsgalor. In the animated film Animal Crackers A family must use a magical box of Animal Crackers to save a run-down circus from being taken over by their evil uncle Horatio P. Huntington. Gigantosaurus follows four prehistoric friends as they go on an array of adventures while trying to unravel a mystery about a big, fierce creature. Finally for kids this week we have Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love Part 2.
