Gareth Evans’ “The Raid” to be Reimagined for Netflix by Patrick Hughes and Michael Bay

Patrick Hughes (“The Hitman’s Bodyguard”) is set to write and direct a reimagining of Gareth Evans’ 2011 hit action film “The Raid”. James Beaufort will also be involved in the writing with Michael Bay and XYZ Films producing. The new film will move the action from Jakarta, Indonesia to Philadelphia, USA and is said to ‘pay great respect to the original film while also bringing a fresh approach and perspective that will set its own course in the action genre.’

From the short description below, we can’t tell if the action will take place in a single tower block or if it will be spread around a whole city. Time will tell, and we’ll let you know as soon as we have more information.

In Philadelphia’s drug-infested ‘Badlands’, an elite undercover DEA task force climb a ladder of cartel informants to catch an elusive kingpin.

The original film was written and directed by Gareth Evans and released theatrically by Sony Pictures Classics in 2012 after premiering to rave reviews at TIFF and Sundance.
