News has broken this morning that the cast of the recent Netflix/MillarWorld series “Jupiter’s Legacy” have been released from their show commitment – essentially cancelling the series. However, it’s not quite as simple as that! Instead of continuing the series and following the original and protege superheroes, the show is being changed to an anthology series. Volume 2 of the show will, instead, follow the villains and be based around the “Supercrooks” comic series that is set in the same universe. Netflix already has an anime version of “Super Crooks” already in the works (expected later this year) but this new announcement is for a live-action show.
Creator Mark Millar stated “Jupiter’s Legacy is a vast and rich space with lots of characters to mine, and so I’m happy to share that our next step here is a live-action version of the Supercrooks comic I created with Leinil Francis Yu a few years back.” He also went on to hint that our heroes from Volume 1 of the show will return at some point:
We’re confident we’ll return to it later and just want to say thanks to you guys for your continued support and to the cast and crew who made this look so great.
So the show itself is not cancelled, as such, but they are changing how the story will be developed and told by expanding on their superhero universe rather than telling a linear story. Let us know your thoughts on the show and this update in the comments below!
Netflix and MillarWorld are also currently working on a number of films and series including “The Magic Order”, “American Jesus”, “Empress”, “Huck”, “Sharkey the Bounty Hunter” and “Prodigy”.
