It’s True! The Office (US) is Leaving Netflix (US) – But You Have 18 Months to Binge

The US version of “The Office” has been a staple on Netflix in North America and Canada since records began but it has now been announced that it will be leaving the streaming giant to find a new home on NBC-Universal’s upcoming streaming service. The current deal with Netflix expires at the end of 2020 and Universal, who own the show, have been shopping it around. Their sister company NBCU were the highest bidder and will be paying $100m per year for the US streaming rights to the show for 5 years. Netflix reportedly bid $90m so were only just outbid. Note that the deal is only for ‘domestic rights’ – meaning that the show may still be available on Netflix in other countries.

Remember though, you have over 18 months to watch this before it leaves! In total the series ran for 9 seasons from 2005 to 2013 with a total of 192 episodes. So if you watch 1 episode every day until it leaves Netflix then you can watch the whole series nearly 3 full times. If you’re a little more conservative and only want to watch it once then just make sure you watch, on average, 2½ episodes a week.
