Sony Tristar Pictures has announced that their upcoming film adaptation of the hit West End show “Matilda The Musical” will come to Netflix in December 2022. The film will get a theatrical release in the UK and Ireland on December 2nd before being released globally on Netflix. It is currently unclear whether it will get a Netflix release in the UK and Ireland.
The popular story by Roald Dahl tells the story of an extraordinary young girl who uses her talent and smarts to outwit her bullying parents and the tyrannical headmistress Miss Trunchbull. Newcomer Alisha Weir will star as Matilda; Emma Thompson (“Saving Mr Banks”) has been announced to play Miss Trunchbull; Lashana Lynch (“Captain Marvel”) will play kindly teacher Miss Honey; Andrea Riseborough (“Oblivion”) and Stephen Graham (“This is England”) have been cast as Matilda’s parents, Mr & Mrs Wormwood; and Sindhu Vee (“Feel Good”) has also been cast, according to IMDb as Mrs Phelps. Comedian and musician Tim Minchin, who wrote the music for the stage show, is also returning to create the music for the film adaptation.
