Mark Millar of Millarworld, the comic book company recently purchased by Netflix, has unveiled the details and cover for the first Netflix Comic Book: “The Magic Order”. Written by Millar, with Olivier Coipel (Thor, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man) as the artist for Volume 1, the comic will be a 6-issue volume available both in print format and in digital. Millar says that he “wanted to make a splash with our first book for Netflix and this is it. I love dark fantasy and there’s an enormous gap in the market for something like this.”
We live in a world where we’ve never seen a monster and these people are the reason we sleep safely in our beds. Magic meets the mob in The Magic Order, as five families of magicians sworn to protect our world for generations must battle an enemy who’s picking them off one by one. By day they live among us as our neighbors, friends and co-workers, but by night they are the sorcerers, magicians and wizards that protect us from the forces of darkness…unless the darkness gets them first.
What’s interesting to see is that these are being referred to as “Netflix Books”; most people assumed the purchase of Millarworld would just result in movie and TV adaptations of comics. Could this mean a whole new branch of Netflix in the future? Maybe a mailorder service from Netflix to rent the comics and then return them for other subscribers?
Millarworld made a name for themselves with “Kick-Ass” and “The Kingsmen” – both franchises having been made into hit movies.
It was announced at the time of purchase that comic book releases would be under the netflix banner as well
