More Cast Announced for Live-Action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” Series for Netflix

It’s been over three years since it was announced but we finally have know the main cast for Netflix’s live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series. The show is a reimagining of the animated Nickelodeon series that ran from 2003 to 2008. The new live-action show has Albert Kim (“Sleepy Hollow”, “Nikita”) as Showrunner / Executive Producer / Writer; Dan Lin (“The Lego Movie”) and Lindsey Liberatore (“Walker”) for Rideback and Michael Goi (“Swamp Thing”) as Executive Producers; and Michael Goi, Roseanne Liang and Jabbar Raisani as Directors. Filming is currently underway in Vancouver.

Four cast members were announced in August and now we have a further eight. So let’s recap what we already knew before moving onto the new additions.


The previously announced leading cast are:

  • Gordon Cormier (“The Stand”) as Aang – the last Airbender
  • Kiawentio (“Beans”) as Katara
  • Ian Ousley (“Physical”) as Sokka
  • Dallas Liu (“Tekken”) as Prince Zuko

The new cast additions are also shown below:

  • Dallas Liu (“Tekken”) as Zuko
  • Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (“Kim’s Convenience”) as Uncle Iroh
  • Elizabeth Yu as Azula
  • Daniel Day Kim (“Insurgent”) as Fire Lord Ozai
  • Ken Leung (“Old”) as CommanderZhao
  • Casey Camp-Horinek (“Barking Water”) as Gran Gran
  • Yvonne Chapman (“Kung Fu”) as Kyoshi
  • Lim Kay Siu (“Anna and The King”) as Gyatso

The series is set in a world divided into four nations with different kinds of elemental “benders”: Earthbenders, Waterbenders, Firebenders and Airbenders. The show followed the last of the Airbenders, Aang, who becomes the Avatar- a special bender who has mastered all four elements.
