Neil Gaiman’s “Sandman” – New TV Series Confirmed for Netflix

Updated: 2nd July.

Warner Bros. TV and Netflix have inked a deal to bring Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel “Sandman” to Netflix as a TV series. This may come as a surprise given that Warner are starting their own streaming service but when it is being reported as possibly the most expensive deal DC Entertainment has ever made, then it may be a useful source of income to fund other projects for their streaming service. The series will be made up from 10 (plus one) episodes with Gaiman, Heinberg and Goyer co-writing the first episode.

Writer/Showrunner/Executive Producer: Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Grey’s Anatomy)
Writers/Executive Producer: Neil Gaiman (Good Omens, Coraline) and David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Krypton, Foundation)

Sandman, published by Vertigo (part of DC), is a horror / fantasy series about Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, who is one of the seven ‘Endless’. The Endless are a powerful group of siblings that also includes Destiny, Death, Destruction, Despair, Desire and Delirium.

A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven, The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic–and human–mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.
