Netflix have today announced that they are making an English-language drama based on “The Witcher” novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. The Polish author, who has already seen a line of popular computer games based on his work, is set to be the creative consultant to the show. Witchers are monster hunters who, at a young age, develop supernatural abilities in order to carry out their role.
Polish CG special effects company Platige Image will be working on the series although it is not yet known whether the series will be live action, CG animated or a mixture of both. We’ll keep you updated in the coming months.
“The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world,” said Sean Daniel and Jason Brown. “The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.”
Added Platige Image’s Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko: “There is a moral and intellectual depth in these books which goes beyond genre. It is a story about today and today’s challenges, hidden under a fantasy cover. It is a story about us, about the monster and the hero inside all of our hearts.”
