Netflix has announced two new upcoming Original series that will be produced in Europe. “Bad Boys for Life” directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have created “Soil” – an 8-episode Belgian drama that looks at how Muslims in Belgium can honour the last wishes of the dead by importing soil to bury them in rather than taking them back to their birth place. The show will première in Belgium on VIER and will be available on Netflix worldwide 6 months after the air date of the last episode, and also on Telenet in Belgium.
When a Muslim dies in Belgium their family is left with the dilemma: “Do we bury them here or do we honor their last wishes and take them back to where they were born?” The young Ishmael ‘Smile’ Boulasmoum, who together with his sister inherits his father’s repatriation business, finds a solution: what if we bring soil from Morocco to bury our dead in it? We’re starting a business in soil! Without realizing it, they open Pandora’s ‘coffin’.
The Swedish series is currently untitled and is a 6-episode drama following a prince as he attends a prestigious Swedish boarding school. But as he becomes next in line to the throne he needs to choose between his duties and his own personal life. The untitled series will launch globally on Netflix in 2021.
When Prince Wilhelm arrives at the prestigious boarding school he finally gets an opportunity to explore his true self and find out what kind of life he really wants. Wilhelm starts dreaming of a future filled with freedom and unconditional love far away from the royal obligations – but when he unexpectedly becomes next in line for the throne his dilemma is heightened as he has to make a choice. Love or duty.
