Netflix are Testing a Shuffle Feature for Popular Episodes of TV Shows

Android Police have reported that Netflix are testing a new ‘shuffle’ feature for popular TV series. The ‘random episode’ feature has appeared in the current Android app for some users along with a ‘random popular episode’ section. The new feature has been spotted in v7.6.0 build 19 (code 34157) of the Android app although it not available for all users. Netflix regularly test new features with a limited number of users in order to judge how well they are received and how well the feature may work.

Netflix has confirmed the test to Mashable stating the following: “We are testing the ability for members to play a random episode from different TV series on the Android mobile app. These tests typically vary in length of time and by region, and may not become permanent.”

It will be interesting to see what shows they will use this on but it is likely to be those series with standalone episodes rather than a running narrative. So shows like “Friends”, “Rick and Morty” would be good candidates whereas something like “Arrow” or “Riverdale” not so much. You can see some screenshots below courtesy of Android Police:
