Netflix Cancels Katherine Ryan Comedy Series “The Duchess” After One Season

Netflix has chosen not to renew Katherine Ryan’s comedy series “The Duchess” after just one season. The 6-episode series launched in September 2020 and was written and executive-produced by Ryan who also starred. The cancellation was announced by Ryan herself on Vicky Pattison’s ‘The Secret To…’ podcast and stated that even though 10 million people watched it in the show’s first four weeks, that wasn’t enough people for Netflix to make any more. She went on to say: “I’m not terribly sad about it. I feel like it’s a whole lot of work, a whole lot of time to make a sitcom. I was so grateful to able to make it, but I think it speaks for itself. I kind of like the way it ended.”

The short-lived series follows the powerful and problematic choices of a fashionably disruptive single mom living in London. Her daughter, Olive, is her greatest love so she debates a second child with her greatest enemy – Olive’s dad. Can two wrongs make another right? The series also stars Rory Keenan as Shep and Steen Raskopoulos as Evan.
