There will be no return to Thra as Netflix has cancelled their Dark Crystal prequel series “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” after just one season. The show launched in August 2019 and recently won an Emmy for best children’s series. The puppet show featured the voice talents of Taron Egerton (“Kingsman”), Anya Taylor Joy (“The Witch”), Nathalie Emmanuel (“Game of Thrones”) as well as Sigourney Weaver (“Avatar”, “Alien”), Lena Headey (“Game of Thrones”), Mark Hamill (“Star Wars”), Benedict Wong (“Doctor Strange”) and many more.
In a statement to io9 Jim Henson Company CEO and executive producer Lisa Henson said “we can confirm that there will not be an additional season of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. We know fans are eager to learn how this chapter of The Dark Crystal saga concludes and we’ll look for ways to tell that story in the future.” You can read the full statement below.
The cancellation is thought to be cost-related after initial delays in production as well as the show having a crew of over 2,500 people. An un-named source linked to Netflix even described the show as an “expensive disappointment”.
