Netflix Confirms Ricky Gervais’s “After Life” Renewed for Second Season

Netflix has confirmed that their dark comedy series “After Life” will be returning for a second season. The series, written by and starring Ricky Gervais, launched on March 8th and follows Tony (Gervais) who had a perfect life until his wife Lisa suddenly died. After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Super Power — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.

Gervais had previously announced on Twitter that he had starting writing season 2 and is quoted as saying “I have never had a reaction like this before. It’s been insane. And heartwarming. But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I’ll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really.”

  1. As I commented on the original Netflix post announcing this…

I don’t usually like his comedy… in fact I’d barely call it comedy. But I saw the trailer where he called the kid a fat ginger c*nt and couldn’t stop laughing, so I gave it a try. I wasn’t really expecting much, but just couldn’t stop watching and went through the lot in one day.

So… yeah. Surprisingly, I find myself looking forward to seeing more.
