Charlize Theron and KiKi Layne are set to reprise their roles for the sequel to Netflix’s action film “The Old Guard” based on the comic book series by author Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernández. Co-stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor are also anticipated to return. The sequel will be directed by Victoria Mahoney (pictured, above right) who served as second unit director on J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode IX -The Rise of Skywalker”, making her the first woman and first Black woman to direct a Star Wars film.
The action-thriller tells the story of a small covert group of immortal mercenaries who must fight to keep their team together when they discover the existence of a new immortal and their extraordinary abilities are exposed. “The Old Guard” is one of Netflix’s most popular films to date and was seen by 78M households in its first four weeks. The first film closely followed the first arc of the comic book series and it is expected that the sequel will follow book two. You can read out review of the first film here: The Old Guard Review.
