Netflix Confirms That Mobile Video Games to Be Included in Current Subscription Cost

Last week we announced that Netflix had hired former Electronic Arts and Facebook/Oculus executive Mike Verdu as their as Vice President of Game Development. However, information was sparse but the streaming giant has now confirmed a bit more information about how Netflix will treat Video Games. In a letter to their shareholders in yesterday’s Q2 Earnings they stated:

We view gaming as another new content category for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animation and unscripted TV. Games will be included in members’ Netflix subscription at no additional cost similar to films and series. Initially, we’ll be primarily focused on games for mobile devices.

So the big take-home point here is that there will be no additional cost for the games and that they are initially focussing on mobile games/apps. So think of it more like “Angry Birds” than “Apex Legends” – it certainly won’t be streamed through your TV as some articles are claiming…
