Netflix Direct: Streaming Giant Launches Trial of Linear Channel Service

Netflix subscribers in France can now access a new way to watch Netflix where the difficult decision of choosing what to watch is taken out of your hands. Netflix Direct is a new way to watch TV and films set to a programming schedule much like traditional, linear TV channels. France was chosen for this trial as regular TV watching is still incredibly popular with many people simply wanting to sit back and watch TV without having to choose for themselves.

Netflix said: “We’re trying a new feature for our members in France – called ‘Direct.’ Maybe you’re not in the mood to decide, or you’re new and finding your way around, or you just want to be surprised by something new and different.”

Selected regions in France can view the ‘channel’ via the Netflix website right now with wider availability coming in early December. It is unknown at the moment whether other countries will be added to the test and if the feature will be added to Set Top Boxes, Smart TVs and the apps.
