Netflix has ordered a brand new series “Jigsaw” which is described as ‘a thrilling, action-packed heist drama’. The series will star Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”), Paz Vega (“Spanglish”), Rufus Sewell (“Dark City”), Tati Gabrielle (“The 100”), Peter Mark Kendall (“The Americans”), Rosaline Elbay (“Ramy”), Jai Courtney (“Terminator Genisys”) and Niousha Noor (“#Persianize”). The 8-episode series spans 24 years ranging from 24 years before the heist to 1 year post-heist and takes a non-linear approach to storytelling in order to build intrigue and suspense. The series also promises to allow the “viewers to be in control” – although we are not sure exactly what this is referring to with regards to being ‘interactive’.
Spanning 24 years, Jigsaw centers around the largest heist ever attempted, and the vengeance, scheming, loyalties, and betrayals that surround it. It’s loosely inspired by the real-life story where seventy billion dollars in bonds went missing in downtown Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy.
Eric Garcia (“Matchstick Men”) created the show and is also showrunner and executive producer. Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker and Jordan Sheehan with Scott Free Productions; Fred Berger, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Justin Levy with Automatik Entertainment; and Russell Fine also executive produce. Jose Padilha (“Elite Squad”) will direct the first two episodes.
“Jigsaw” is currently filming at Netflix Studios: Brooklyn, making it the first production at the streamer’s new Bushwick studio.
