BBC crime drama “Luther” is set to continue with a new feature length film for Netflix. Cynthia Erivo (“Bad Times at the El Royale”) and Andy Serkis (“Black Panther”) will be joining Idris Elba on the cast. The show, created by Neil Cross, ran for five seasons but came to an abrupt end with a somewhat annoying cliffhanger. Last year it was announced that there would not be a sixth season but it was teased that there may be a film instead. Jamie Payne (“Luther”, “The Alienist”) will direct the film with Dan Finlay for Chernin Entertainment; Priscilla Parish for BBC Studios; and Kris Thykier as executive producers.
The film is a co-production with the BBC and it is likely that it will be aired in the UK on BBC and BBC iPlayer alongside Netflix around the world. Most BBC-Netflix co-productions usually come to Netflix UK after 6 or 12 months. It is currently unknown whether or not the previous seasons of Luther will return to Netflix globally to coincide with the new film.
