On January 28th 1986 the Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart and exploded 73 seconds into its flight, killing all seven crew members aboard. The disaster was witnessed live on TV by millions of people around the world including and, because the crew also contained the first teacher in space, many schools were watching too. Ultimately the cause was worked out to be from some faulty O-rings that allowed burning fuel to get where it shouldn’t.
