Netflix Use St George’s Day to Announce New English Football Series: The English Game

Netflix has announced an upcoming Original drama series that charts the origins of football (actual football, not that hand-egg stuff the Americans refer to as “football”). “The English Game”, which has already started production in the UK, is written and executive produced by “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes and produced by 42 (“Watership Down”, “Traitors”). The six-part drama charts the origins of football and how those involved in its creation reached across the class divide to establish the game as the world’s most popular sport.

The series will star Edward Holcroft (“Kingsman: The Golden Circle”), Kevin Guthrie (“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”), Charlotte Hope (“Game of Thrones”), Craig Parkinson (“Line of Duty”), James Harkness (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”), Niamh Walsh (“Jekyll & Hyde”), Gerard Kearns (“The Mark of Cain”), Joncie Elmore (“Downton Abbey”), Sam Keeley (“Anthropoid”), Daniel Ings (“The Crown”), Kate Dickie (“Prometheus”), Henry Lloyd Hughes (“Killing Eve”), Kate Phillips (“Peaky Blinders”), Ben Batt (“Captain America: The First Avenger”), Sylvestra Le Touzel (“Happy-Go-Lucky”), Harry Michell (“Chubby Funny”) and Anthony Andrews (“The King’s Speech”).
