After a longstanding relationship with the BBC, Aardman Productions is creating a brand new stop-motion animation for Netflix. “Robin Robin” is a Christmas-themed story and is the first musical show that the company has created. The show is currently in production and will premier in the run up to Christmas 2020. Described as a mixture between The Ugly Duckling and Oliver Twist, the film will tell the story of a robin that is raised by mice who eventually realised her differences to discover who she really is.
The half hour film will have a very different visual style with the animators ditching their famous plasticine and, instead, relying on felt covered models that use natural materials like twigs and feathers.
When her egg fortuitously rolls into a rubbish dump, Robin is raised by a loving family of mice. As she grows up, her differences become more apparent. Robin sets off on the heist to end all heists to prove to her family that she can be a really good mouse – but ends up discovering who she really is.
