Way back in 2005 Robert Rodriguez directed a little film called “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D” which was actually pretty cool as far as kids action films go. You may be wondering what has happened to the titular heroes in the years since. If you were, then you’re in look – they got together and had a kid called Guppy. How do we know this? Well, it has just been announced that they will feature in Rodriguez’s new family film “We Can Be Heroes”, which will arrive globally on January 1st, 2021.
The film is described as a new take on the super hero genre and was shot in Texas. When alien invaders that kidnap Earth’s superheroes, their children must team up and learn to work together if they want to save their parents and the world. Expect a trailer soon.
Taylor Dooley will reprise her original role as Lavagirl with JJ Dashnaw, a stuntman from “Spy Kids 3: Game Over”, taking over the role Sharkboy. Vivien Blair, who played ‘Girl’ in “Bird Box”, plays their daughter Guppy who can be seen riding her dad in the images below.
The film is written, produced and directed by Rodriguez (“Spy Kids”) and will also star Christian Slater (“Mr. Robot”), YaYa Gosselin (“The Purge”), Akira Akbar (“Captain Marvel”), Andrew Diaz, Andy Walken (“The Kids are Alright”), Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”), Hala Finley (“Man with a Plan”) Isaiah Russell-Bailey (“Family Reunion”), Lotus Blossom (“Magic Max”), Lyon Daniels (“Patriot”), Nathan Blair (“Best. Worst. Weekend. Ever.”), Sung Kang (“Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift”), Vivien Lyra Blair (“Bird Box”), Adriana Barraza (“Dora and the Lost City of Gold”) and Christopher McDonald (“Mr. Iglesias”) with Pedro Pascal (“Narcos”) and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas (“Isn’t It Romantic”).
