Netflix has bought the new animated film from “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” producers, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, from Sony in a move that confirms that it will no longer get a cinematic release. Sony Pictures Animation (SPA) were previously set to release ‘Connected’ in the cinemas back in September 2020 but now it will get an exclusive small screen debut and it is back with its original title: “The Mitchells Vs. The Machines”. While we don’t have a release date, we can at least tell you what it’s about:
THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES is an original animated comedy about an everyday family’s struggle to relate while technology rises up around the world! When Katie Mitchell (voiced by Abbi Jacobson), a creative outsider, is accepted into the film school of her dreams, her plans to meet “her people” at college are upended when her nature-loving dad Rick (voiced by Danny McBride) determines the whole family should drive Katie to school together and bond as a family one last time.
Lord and Miller have previously worked with SPA on both “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” films and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”. We’ll keep you updated with any news of release dates or trailers.
