Back in 2019, after a longstanding relationship with the BBC, Aardman Productions announced they were creating a brand new stop-motion animation for Netflix. “Robin Robin” is a Christmas-themed story and is the first musical show that the company has created. The show was originally scheduled for a Christmas 2020 release but, well, you know… Covid ‘n all that… The film is now scheduled for a Christmas 2021 release and you can see the first teaser below! Described as a mixture between The Ugly Duckling and Oliver Twist, the film will tell the story of a robin that is raised by mice who eventually realised her differences to discover who she really is.
The half hour film will have a very different visual style with the animators ditching their famous plasticine and, instead, relying on felt covered models that use natural materials like twigs and feathers. It also features the voice talents of Gillian Anderson, Richard E Grant, Bronte Carmichael and Adeel Akhtar.
When her egg fortuitously rolls into a rubbish dump, Robin is raised by a loving family of mice. As she grows up, her differences become more apparent. Robin sets off on the heist to end all heists to prove to her family that she can be a really good mouse – but ends up discovering who she really is.
