The American Version of “The Circle” for Netflix Was Filmed in The UK Flats

Netflix has just released the trailer on Twitter for the upcoming American version of “The Circle”, which arrives on January 1st, and it looks like they will be in familiar surroundings. Looking at the trailer it appears that they are in the same building used in season 2 of the original Channel 4 version that aired earlier this year in the UK. The most recent series on Channel 4 was filmed in Salford Quays near Manchester and you can compare images from the trailer with those from Channel 4 below. You can also just about make out the roof-top area on the Netflix trailer.

Now, obviously they could just be re-using old footage to keep production costs down but those familiar with the show may recognise the exact same white cameras used in the UK version (see below) as well as them having Dyson Airblade fans. You might also notice the exact same ‘leaf’ decor too.

While that isn’t conclusive evidence, there is one massive giveaway in the trailer if you look closely… During the trailer there is a shot where you can see an iron on an ironing board that displays the CE mark (a European safety mark) but just to the right there is a plug cover that is clearly from a UK 3-pin plug (as well as a socket ‘safety’ cover – don’t get me started on those actually being unsafe…).

So it looks like The Circle has joined The Crown in Netflix’s UK productions! We’re looking forward to watching a new version of the show although we’re keeping our reservations about the voice over… Can anyone be better than comedian Sophie Willan?

In The Circle you never know who you’re playing against as contestants bond, flirt, and plot, all in an effort to earn clout exclusively through a unique social media platform. Everyone’s competing to gain influence and avoid getting voted out. But who’s for real and who’s a catfish? With $100k on the line, what would you do – and who would you be – to win?
