The Best New Additions on Netflix UK This Week (18th June 2021)

If you want to know what to watch this weekend then we’re here to give you the lowdown on this week’s biggest and best film, TV and documentary additions on Netflix UK. Here we will give you our top picks as well as a full list of everything added to Netflix in the UK in the last week. So here are our top picks from this week’s additions on Netflix UK:

The most popular addition this week has been the spoof horror The Dead Don’t Die which has a star studded cast and sees the peaceful town of Centerville find itself battling a zombie horde as the dead start rising from their graves. The crime drama Boyz n the Hood follows the lives of three young males living in the Crenshaw ghetto of Los Angeles, dissecting questions of race, relationships, violence, and future prospects. In the monster horror The Devil Below a team of researchers tries to find out what started a fire in a coal mine, where they quickly discover that the disaster is anything but natural. In the Russian drama Silver Skates the 20th century is just around the corner. In winter, St. Petersburg transforms into a fairy tale-like wonderland where frozen rivers and canals serve as the iced-over roads and bustle with skaters and markets. The city is home to 18-year-old Matvey who works as an ice-skating delivery boy at a local bakery. The son of a poor lamplighter, his only treasure is a pair of silver-plated skates he inherited from his father. When he is unjustly fired he joins a gang of pickpockets who work the canals, led by the revolutionary-minded Alex. A Man For The Week End sees a career-focused woman convince a colleague to pose as her boyfriend for a family visit — and must face a meddling mom and some unexpected feelings. Finally for film this week we have The Karate Kid in this remake of the classic film work causes a single mother to move to China with her young son; in his new home, the boy embraces kung fu, taught to him by a master.

For anime fans we have a large selection of films including Mobile Suit Gundam I, Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow, Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack which are classic 80’s films featuring mechs (giant robots driven by humans) which have been added in advance of the upcoming Netflix Original sequel “Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway” which arrives July 1st.

For TV this week we have Black Summer is set during the early days of a zombie apocalypse, and sees complete strangers band together to find the strength they need to survive and get back to loved ones. In the romantic comedy Let’s Eat a food-blogging insurance agent encounters a friend from elementary school with a vendetta against him, but soon becomes her sidekick. In the Korean crime thriller Beyond Evil as a killing resembling a cold case resurfaces in a small town, the chase for the truth falls on two policemen who each harbour secrets of their own. In the reality series The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals three travellers visit vacation rentals around the globe and share their expert tips and tricks Also added were a set of Spanish mini series’ Elite Short Stories: Carla Samuel sees Samuel attempt a big, romantic gesture at the airport in order to persuade Carla not to board her flight to London. In Elite Short Stories: Guzmán Caye Rebe Rebe hosts an intimate house warming party for her friends, but the situation takes a dramatic turn with the help of drugs and unexpected visitors. In Elite Short Stories: Nadia Guzmán Nadia feels conflicted about whether or not to see her long distance boyfriend, Guzmán, when she returns to Spain for her sister’s wedding.  Elite Short Stories: Omar Ander Alexis sees Ander who is now in remission determined to spend his summer helping Alexis, his chemo partner, go through treatment. Finally for TV this week we have season 4 of the Spanish series Elite.

For those who enjoy watching documentaries we have Metallica: Some Kind of Monster which follows the iconic metal band as they struggle for two years to create their album St. Anger, deal with alcoholism, the loss of their bass player, and the challenge of working with a psychotherapist. Penguin Town follows an eclectic group of endangered penguins in a picturesque South African town, as they flock together to find mates, raise families and mix with the locals. In Biking Borders best friends Max and Nono bike from Berlin to Beijing, collecting donations to build a school for a unique fundraising adventure. In Picture a Scientist leading women scientists discuss the inequalities they’ve faced as they set out to create a new formula to make STEM open to all. Finally for documentaries we have the interactive Headspace: Unwind Your Mind where whether you want to relax, meditate or sleep deeply, you can personalise the experience according to your mood or mindset.

Finally for this week for children and family we have Power Rangers Dino Fury where an army of powerful alien beings is unleashed on Earth threatening life as we know it, until a brand-new team of Power Rangers, fuelled by the prehistoric power of the dinosaurs, are recruited to deal with the threat. In Rhyme Time Town fun-loving friends Daisy and Cole use music and imagination to solve problems in a town filled with nursery rhyme characters.
