The Best New Additions on Netflix UK This Week (20th November 2020)

It’s been a rather quiet week this week although we do have a few additions to tell you about. For films this week we have the Christmas film The App That Stole Christmas a comedy story about an inventor who has created a super powerful app that eases the shopping craze during Christmas by the click of a button. Although he is very proud of what he has created, and the success he has had financially, he gradually discovers that his app is ruining the spirit of Christmas. Sorry to Bother You is set in an alternate version of Oakland, California – Cassius Green gets a telemarketing job where a veteran advises him to use his “white voice,” and the attitude behind it to make himself more appealing to customers. Holmes & Watson is a humorous take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic mysteries featuring Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. Comedy film Life of the Party sees a divorced and dedicated housewife enrol in the same university as her daughter to get her degree and live the full college experience. Arkansas is a crime thriller that follows Kyle and Swin who live by the orders of an Arkansas-based drug kingpin named Frog, who they’ve never met. But when a deal goes horribly wrong, the consequences are deadly. The comedy/horror Zombieland is an adventure comedy about A shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, a gun-toting tough guy trying to find the last Twinkie, and a pair of sisters trying to get to an amusement park who join forces to travel across a zombie-filled America. Finally for films this week we have the 12 minute animated short If Anything Happens I Love You which follows a  grieving parents journey through an emotional void as they mourn the loss of a child in the aftermath of a tragic school shooting.

TV this week includes Man Down a British comedy about Dan a childish idiot trapped in an adult’s life, who is helped along by his uniquely dysfunctional best friends, Jo and Brian; and follows his inability to navigate the simplest of life’s tasks, a listless teaching career, and daily humiliation and torment by his father. Heart & Soul is a medical drama which is set in a hospital in Lagos, where a doctor yearning for more field experience meets patients with various ailments that test his spiritual and medical beliefs. In the hindi comedy Mismatched two teens who were set up by their parents navigate their friendship; but will feelings follow? In the reality series Holiday Home Makeover with Mr. Christmas interior designer Benjamin “Mr. Christmas” Bradley works with a trusty team of “elves” to help families transform their homes for the holidays. Tattoo Fixers on Holiday sees the tattoo crew set up shop in the sunny Mediterranean to fix the monstrosities and other awful inkings on various holidaymakers, and finally we have season 4 of the ever-popular Netflix original The Crown which sees the introduction of Margaret Thatcher and Diana Spencer.

Netflix UK has also had some documentaries that may interest you including Voices of Fire a faith-based docuseries,which follows Bishop Ezekiel Williams as he builds an inspiring, non-traditional gospel choir with the help of his superstar nephew Pharrell. We Are the Champions explores an array of unique competitions, from the quirky to the bizarre, and introduces viewers to their passionate communities. Lastly for documentaries we have season 3 of Flavorful Origins where you can embark on a delightful journey through the culinary traditions of China and uncover the stories of the people who create and cherish its dishes.

For family viewing this week we have Alien Xmas which sees a young elf mistake a tiny alien for a Christmas gift, not knowing her new plaything has plans to destroy Earth’s gravity and steal all the presents. In The Princess Switch: Switched Again Duchess Margaret unexpectedly inherits the throne to Montenaro and hits a rough patch with Kevin, it’s up to her double Stacy to save the day before a new lookalike, party girl Fiona foils their plans. Classic 90s sitcom Moesha follows the life and times of a black teenager living in the Leimert Park section of Los Angeles as she tries to navigate the twists and firsts of high school, juggle friendships, romance and the occasional drama while trying to keep her family together. Finally for family viewing this week we have season 4 of The Boss Baby: Back in Business and season 2 of LEGO City.
