The Best New Additions on Netflix UK This Week (23rd July 2021)

If you want to know what to watch this weekend then we’re here to give you the lowdown on this week’s biggest and best film, TV and documentary additions on Netflix UK. Here we will give you our top picks as well as a full list of everything added to Netflix in the UK in the last week. So here are our top picks from this week’s additions on Netflix UK:

It’s been a movie-filled week this week with over thirty new films added to Netflix UK! The most popular movie this week from our social media followers has been Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy – a Cold War spy thriller based on the 1974 novel. The film follows an English spy as he returns to MI-6 under suspicion that he’s become a Soviet operative. The number 1 in Netflix’s official Top 10 this week is the incredibly polarising Suicide Squad – love it or hate it, the DC film sees a team of super villains released from prison for a top secret mission to save the world from the apocalypse. They’ll probably die, as the title suggests, but who will miss a villain? Other DC films added this week are 2017’s Wonder Woman which tells the backstory of the super-powered Amazonian; and the follow on film Justice League which sees Wonder Woman teaming up with Batman, Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg after the death of Super Man in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”.

90s classic sci-fi The Matrix has been a popular addition this week along with its two sequels: The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. The films follow a group of hackers who discover that the world is really a computer simulation and then lead a rebellion against the machines that control it. We also have the military action films 300 and 300: Rise of an Empire. ‘300’ is set in 480 B.C. where Spartan King Leonidas leads his small band of 300 soldiers against an army of more than 1 million during the Battle of Thermopylae. The second film is set before, during and after the events of the first and follows mortal-turned-god Xerxes as je leads the Persian forces in their invasion of Greece.

Other film additions this week include the British sci-fi action film Attack the Block; Russian drama Chernobyl 1986; the musical drama Florence Foster Jenkins; the action-packed crime film The Accountant; action-horror Blood Red Sky; and the literary classic The Great Gatsby.

For TV this week we have the brand new He-Man series from legendary director and write Kevin Smith. Masters of the Universe: Revelation follows on directly from where the original 80s series ended after a cataclysmic battle between He-Man and Skeletor. Eternia is fractured and the Guardians of Grayskull are scattered – it’s up to Teela to reunite the broken band of heroes, and solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power in a race against time to restore Eternia and prevent the end of the universe. There is also the first episode of the aftershow: Revelations: The Masters of the Universe: Revelation Aftershow. We also have a new dating show called Sexy Beasts, based on the BBC Three series, where contestants are in full prosthetics to put blind-date chemistry to the test. And finally for TV this week we have season 2 of Spanish action series Sky Rojo which follows three women on the run from their pimp and his henchmen.

For documentaries this week we have season 2 of the enjoyable The Movies That Made Us which looks at the stories behind popular films – this season covers “Back to The Future”, “Pretty Woman”, “Jurassic Park” and “Forrest Gump”. We also have 9to5: The Story of a Movement – a documentary film about Boston’s female office workers of the 1970s who wanted to inspire change with a call for better pay, more opportunities and an end to sexual harassment.

For children and families this week we have the epic conclusion to the Arcadia Trilogy series with Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans. The film follows the heroes from “Trollhunters,” “3Below” and “Wizards” who join forces to fight a shadowy enemy threatening to take over their worlds – and reset Earth itself. Possibly the best Batman film has also been added this week with The Lego Batman Movie where the Caped Crusader must defend his world against a team of super villains. Finally for this week we have Storks who no longer delivery babies to human parents. But when an order for a baby is mistakenly submitted, they must deliver the special baby at all costs.
