This week’s top film addition is the horror thriller Us where, in order to get away from their busy lives, the Wilson family takes a vacation to Santa Cruz, California with the plan of spending time with their friends, the Tyler family. On a day at the beach, their young son Jason almost wanders off, causing his mother Adelaide to become protective of her family. That night, four mysterious people break into Adelaide’s childhood home where they’re staying. The family is shocked to find out that the intruders look like them, only with grotesque appearances… In the 1984 comedy Ghostbusters Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz and Egon Spengler work at Columbia University where they delve into the paranormal and fiddle with many unethical experiments on their students. As they are kicked out of the University, they really start to understand the paranormal and go into business for themselves. Under the new snazzy business name of ‘Ghostbusters’ and are called to rid New York City of paranormal phenomenon at everyone’s whim – for a price. The Art of Self-Defense follows a timid bookkeeper, Casey, who joins a neighbourhood karate studio to learn how to protect himself. Under the watchful eye of a charismatic instructor, Sensei, and hardcore brown belt Anna, Casey gains a newfound sense of confidence for the first time in his life. But when he attends Sensei’s mysterious night classes, he discovers a sinister world of fraternity, brutality and hyper-masculinity, presenting a journey that places him squarely in the sights of his enigmatic new mentor.

In 3:10 to Yuma a small-time rancher agrees to hold a captured outlaw who’s awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma. A battle of wills ensues as the outlaw tries to psych out the rancher. Steel Magnolias is a comedy that pivots around the lively Truvy Jones’ Louisiana beauty parlour with a tightly-knit band of friends that confront grief, loss, life’s unforeseen tragedies and heartaches with what they do best: gossiping and sharing. The spirited diabetic and bride-to-be, Shelby; her always supportive mother, M’Lynn; Truvy’s gawky assistant, Annelle; the bad-tempered, Ouiser; and the town’s former first lady, Clairee, are the warm Southern belles who know how to survive life’s challenges with their unwavering friendship. But when Shelby decides to conceive, things will turn upside down. Finally for films this week we have the horror The Boy which sees Greta, a young American woman, take a job as a nanny in a remote English village where she discovers that the family’s 8-year-old is a life-sized doll that the parents care for just like a real boy as a way to cope with the death of their actual son 20 years ago. When she violates a list of strict rules, her worst nightmare is brought to life by a series of disturbing, inexplicable events and she comes to believe that the doll is alive.

Throughout February and March there will be nearly 200 Scandinavian films added to Netflix UK this week they include Att döda ett barn where a car accident involving a young child takes a devastating toll in this 9-minute film based on the 1948 short story by writer Stig Dagerman. Back in the present, some of these individuals work as corporate sponsored superheroes and their activities are documented by a popular reality TV show called HeroTV, wherein they are awarded points and ranked in order of their performance.
