We’ve hit a new month so there are a lot of new additions to get through with over 90 new things to watch – 68 of which are films. So without further ado here are some top picks for new movies on Netflix UK this week. The most popular addition according to our social media followers this week has been The Who’s rock opera Tommy. The 1975 film follows a young boy, Tommy, who becomes blind, deaf and dumb after his father’s death but goes on to become a master of pinball and the leader of a new cult. In the 80s comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, popular teen Ferris fakes illness to skip school and heads to Chicago for an adventurous day with his girlfriend and uptight best friend. Action-packed crime film Chaos stars Jason Statham as a suspended Seattle cop is brought back to the police force to negotiate with a gang of bank robbers in order to free dozens of hostages. Solomon Kane is an epic tale about a once-murderous sea captain who is hiding in a monastery in retreat from the devil – who he fears is coming for his soul.

Gosford Park is a witty, British whodunnit that tells the story of a number of wealthy guests and their servants who gather for a weekend stay at the home of Sir William McCordle, who is soon found murdered… Jason Statham is popular this week as we also have Blitz – with a serial killer on the loose in London, a detective takes on the case while working out his aggression issues with a police-appointed shrink. Horror film Aftermath sees a young couple, desperate to save their marriage, move into their dream home, but disturbing events reveal the house’s troubled history. Clint Eastwood stars in the crime thriller The Mule which sees an old horticulturalist, in dire needs of money, becoming a delivery driver for a Mexican drug cartel. ’71 is a British drama set during the height of Northern Ireland’s Troubles where a young British soldier who’s separated from his unit must survive a night alone in the city.

Other films worth a quick mention include the Ocean’s Trilogy: Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen; Female-led reboot Ghostbusters; Sci-fi action film Elysium; Rocky spin-off Creed; 90s courtroom drama The Firm; Western film Young Guns II; British crime comedy RocknRolla; French thriller/horror The Swarm; and the real-life drama / spy film Munich.

For TV shows on Netflix UK this week we have season 3 of Channel 4 drama series Ackley Bridge which follows the ups and downs of students in a racially-divided fictional Yorkshire high school. Season 2 of Mexican drama Control Z has been added this week and follows what happens to a group of high school teens whose darkest secrets have been revealed by a hacker. Cooking With Paris is a new cooking show starring Paris Hilton – the key part of the premise is that she’s not a cook which makes for some interesting kitchen shenanigans with her famous friends. The team at Gotham Garage continues to customise vehicles in season 3 of Car Masters: Rust to Riches. ANd, finally for TV, we have the return of Channel 4’s Spaced which follows 20-somethings Tim and Daisy as they try to avoid actual adult life.

If you’re a fan of documentaries then we have a few new additions fo you this week. A very popular addition is the limited series Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami which looks into the lives of two childhood friends and high school dropouts who became the most powerful drug kingpins in Miami to create a crime saga that spanned decades. City of God: 10 Years Later reunites a number of the cast and crew from “City of God” to find out what paths their lives took. Polish film Of Animals and Men looks at how a couple his Jews in their zoo during the Second World War in order to save their lives. Pray Away sees ex-leaders and a survivor of the so-called “conversion therapy” movement speak out about its harm to the LGBTQ+ community and its devastating persistence. Finally for documentaries this week we have Shiny_Flakes: The Teenage Drug Lord which tells the true story of a teenager who sold drugs from his bedroom and built an empire – you might recognise this as the real life tale that “How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)” is based on.

For kids and families this week we have a small selection of films you may enjoy.
