The Watcher – Netflix Secure Rights to Movie Adaptation of Real-Life Horror Story

Netflix has won a furious bidding war to secure the movie rights for “The Watcher” based on a news article from New York’s The Cut. The article, published in November 2018, tells the story of the Broaddus family who purchased their dream home in New Jersey but were terrorised by an unknown stalker who wrote regular letters to them going into great detail of what they were doing in the house. Since June 2014 the letters have continued and they are still ongoing – which could make things interesting for how the film will pan out.

According to Deadline Netflix paid a seven-figure sum for the magazine article rights as well as the first authorised movie rights. Henry Joost & Ariel Schulman (Paranormal Activity 3, Catfish) are attached to direct the movie.
