This Week’s New Releases on Netflix UK (11th January 2019)

Another week has passed and, in case you missed our social media feeds, we’re here to give you the run down on this week’s additions just in time for your weekend binge sessions. Here we will give you our top picks as well as a full list of everything added to the streaming service in the last week. So here are our top picks from this week’s additions on Netflix UK:

It’s been a quieter week this week on Netflix UK with just over 30 new additions but we still have a lot of great content to tell you about – especially when it comes to TV additions. First of all is the most popular addition which is Season 13 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia – this long-running American sitcom follows ‘The Gang’ who run an Irish bar in Philadelphia and have a tendency to stoop to various low levels to serve their self-interest but also provide a very comedic show. DC series Titans has arrived on Netflix in the UK and is an live-action series (strictly for adults) based on the Teen Titans comics. Follow Robin, Starfire, Raven and Beast Boy as they learn to understand their powers and try to protect their city – all without needing Batman.

A few Netflix Originals are worth mentioning this week including the brand new comedy drama series Sex Education which sees Gillian Anderson starring as a sex therapist who teams up with her insecure son to provide a sex-therapy clinic for his school mates. Season 2 of Friends from College has arrived this week; the show, which was a surprise hit in Summer 2017, follows a group of friends who get back together 20 years after graduating from college. Add, finally for TV, we have America’s Got Talent: The Champions which sees various stars from the worldwide ‘Got Talent’ series batting it out against each other. New episodes will be added every Wednesday.

The most popular film added to Netflix UK this week is Belle – a factual drama that traces the life of Dido Elizabeth Belle, a biracial girl born in 1761 to a British admiral father and African mother. Another great addition this week is Split, which stars James McAvoy as a man with split personalities – 23 in fact. After he kidnaps 3 girls they must find a way to escape before the new 24th personality causes them more harm. Finally for this week’s films additions we have the third and final part of the new anime Godzilla trilogy: GODZILLA The Planet Eater. Having not seen either of the first two films I’m just going to copy and paste the description in the hope that it makes sense to some of you: “With the earth alliance weakened, Haruo weighs siding with the Exif, whose death cult is summoning a monster that can destroy the world.”

Before we finish with this week’s new additions there are a couple of documentaries worth mentioning. Catwalk: Tales from the Cat Show Circuit follows a number of Canadian cat owners as they enter their beloved pets into cat shows to try gain the title of Canada’s Top Cat. We also see the return of Kurt & Courtney – an interesting documentary that delves into the history of the band Nirvana and their rise to fame and the conspiracy theories surrounding singer Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994.

Don’t forget to look at the most popular additions this week and for all the Netflix Originals added today you can read our separate post.
