This Week’s New Releases on Netflix UK (21st June 2019)

Another week has passed and, in case you missed our social media feeds, we’re here to give you the run down on this week’s additions just in time for your weekend binge sessions. Here we will give you our top picks as well as a full list of everything added to the streaming service in the last week. So here are our top picks from this week’s additions on Netflix UK:

There has been a wide selection of films added this week with something to suit everyone’s tastes, these include The Happytime Murders – a dark comedy, set in a place where puppets and humans live and work alongside each other. Whilst it is directed by Brian Henson the son of the late Jim Henson, this is definitely not The Muppets kind of family humour that you can watch with kids, this is a strictly adult film. Next up this week is a film set in the post-apocalyptic future where tyrannical machines teleport a cyborg to 1984 to a kill a woman whose unborn son is destined to lead the human rebels: ladies and gents we have the classic 80’s film The Terminator. The period drama The Beguiled set during the Civil War, tells the story of a wounded Union soldier who takes refuge at a Southern girls school, rupturing the calm amid growing sexual tension and infighting. Finally for films this week we have the romance Running for Grace, which sees, a young man of mixed race and the daughter of a white plantation owner in 1920s Hawaii try to overcome racial and class prejudice to be together.

It has been a fantastic week for anime fans as, for the first time ever streaming on any service, you can now watch, Neon Genesis Evangelion, The End of Evangelion, and  EVANGELION: DEATH (TRUE)² . Evangelion is set fifteen years after a worldwide cataclysm, particularly in the futuristic fortified city of Tokyo-3. The protagonist is Shinji, a teenage boy who was recruited by his father to the shadowy organisation Nerv to pilot a giant bio-machine mecha called an “Evangelion” into combat with alien beings called “Angels”. The series explores the experiences and emotions of Evangelion pilots and members of Nerv as they try to prevent any and all of the Angels from causing another cataclysm, and as they deal with the quest of finding out the real truth behind events and organisational moves.

The pick of the bingeworthy TV that was added this week includes, the BBC comedy series Man Like Mobeen, which sees 28 year old Brummie Muslim Mobeen doing his best to follow his faith, lead a good life and make sure his sister fulfils her potential. But his criminal past is always chasing him. Season 2 of Girls Incarcerated, returns to two juvenile correctional facilities in Indiana to see how the teen girls deal with conflict and heartbreak as they try to turn their lives around. Finally for TV we have season 2 of The Casketeers which follows a team of Māori funeral directors, season 2 of the German Original series Dark and a new Original comedy series Mr. Iglesias.

If you are looking for documentaries to watch this week, we have season 2 of The Confession Tapes a true crime documentary series which investigates cases where people convicted of murder claim their confessions were coerced, involuntary or false. Bob Lazar was an area 51 whistleblower, and in Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers, he is back and ready to tell the world about the he alien tech he worked with, and the government’s war to shut him up. Finally for documentaries, get a glimpse into the brain’s vast potential for memorisation through the eyes of four competitive memory athletes as they share techniques and insights, in Memory Games.
